A Quiet Practice
On Friday afternoon, Shalom Kitty takes the nearest warm seat and places one paw on the challah. This is not guarding in the dramatic sense. It is a reminder that the loaf has an appointment and everyone else can wait. The kippah is straight enough, the table is settled, and every unnecessary errand has been quietly denied without further discussion.
House Rules
Nobody runs before sundown. The challah remains under one paw, ceremonial and structurally intact. Visitors may sit, whisper, or reconsider why they were hurrying. Shalom Kitty answers most requests with a slow blink and one request with a slower blink. The blue kippah stays on. The bread stays close. By the time urgency leaves the room, supper is exactly where it should be. The clock continues; nobody here is impressed.
The House Position
Nothing is urgent while the challah is still warm.
Rest first. Everything else can wait.
